THE KITCHEN
August 2011

Dennys have been supplying kitchen uniforms for over 170 years
but the modern catering industry was re-borne in the 1950’s when
eating out started to become more popular.

Dennys staff could not resist the chance to be part of the first night
audience for the revival of Arnold Weskers play “The Kitchen”
at the National Theatre last night.

A cast of 30 bring to life the Tivoli kitchen in 1959 while it serves lunch
to 1500 customers in orchestrated chaos and the consequential low points
that it creates.

Dennys have enjoyed helping to promote the production to its customers
through a special ticket price reduction which is attached and still available.

THE BOSS IS 60!
July 2011

The crew at Denny's had a whip around to get Nick Jubert a gift which he would not forget. This is what he had to say.

Dear All,
You will be pleased to know that I have survived your lovely action present  which I enjoyed last Thursday.
Cotswold airport near Cirencester is where I had to go to find a plane big enough for my height.
The plane is a Bulldog from the Swedish airforce and can pull 6 g in turns which I assure you is more than enough.
I was very lucky to have my flight upgraded without any cost because they had another flyer who had booked a top gun flight which requires two planes in the air which after doing your own acrobatics then chase each other until your stomach cannot take any more.
It was ominous that they kept saying " have you got the sick bag in the leg pocket of your flight suit" and where the "D" ring is on the  parachute  and how to jump out ,and what pub we would meet at if it came to a bail out. All part of the build up.
My  pilot was Mags who is a British Midland pilot and does this on her days off for some real fun.The other pilot was from Virgin and the other flyer was an air traffic controller from Swanwick.
It all happens so fast with the first barrel role coming soon after the takeoff which was in formation with the other plane only 30 foot away. As soon as we were up the right way she said, go on you do the next one. I was still collecting my stomach from my shoes as I did the same manoeuvre and then it was on to loops ,stalls and victory rolls .It's all so easy!!.Thank good ness for the Roman Fossway road straight as an arrow to follow on the ground.
We then met up with the other plane and we started chasing them with me doing the flying.
I was very pleased when he said they were taking a"comfort rest" for a moment. This is code for Give my stomach a rest.
We then resumed with us in the lead and thankfully our 30 minutes were soon up .My stomach was starting to retch but thank goodness I had not eaten for many hours on purpose.
A hair raising landing as we dropped like a stone straight onto the runway from 1000 feet brought a big grin to Mags face who said this was the best part. You can understand why when you usually fly jumbos straight and steady every day.
40 minutes hair raising dual control airtime has now been added to my old flying logbook as a memory not to be forgotten.
Thank you all.
Nick
